Dunk 1.JPGIt seems that there were a lot of people waiting for their chance to dunk Bill Schiavone of the SchiavoneDiamond Team at Downtown Oakville's Midnight Madness on Friday, July 15th. People were pre-purchasing their tickets in anticipation of Bill's arrival on the perch. Along with Dan Ferrone, Roy Tjoa and others, Bill was volunteering at the Swim For Mental Health's dunk tank booth. Temperatures that night were perfect and enjoyable, but the water in the dunk tank was near freezing!  Bill was a good sport though, having been dunked at least 50 times.

Frank Zamuner's 3rd annual Swim for Mental Health event will take place on November 24, 25 & 26 at Appleby College Pool.  After a triple bypass operation, Frank found himself suffering from depression and is now raising awareness and funds for the Mental Health program at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, where he received excellent care. You can visit their website for more information at www.swimformentalhealth.com.

Thank you to everyone that came out and bought tickets for this event. Over $2,000 was raised for the program, but the joy and satisfaction of hitting that target must have been priceless.

bill.jpgHere's your chance to make Bill squirm! On Friday, July 15th Downtown Oakville will be having its annual Midnight Madness Event, where you can try to send Bill swimming in a dunk tank in support of Swim For Mental Health.

New Central Public School hosted the annual "Wake up to Aids Pancake Breakfast" to a sold out crowd of 300+ on December 1st, 2010 - World Aids Day! This amazing event was sponsored by local businesses: Denny's (Cross Ave.), Jubilee Fruit Market and the Schiavone Diamond Real Estate Team. New Central students, staff and their families enjoyed breakfast of pancakes, sausage, fresh orange juice and hot chocolate. Over $1,500.00 was raised in support of World Aids Day, with all proceeds going to Oomama, a volunteer organization of Grandmothers led by the Stephen Lewis Foundation. The Oomama Grandmothers Campaign supports African grandmothers who are raising grandchildren who have lost their parents to HIV AIDS.

The Oomama Grandmothers performed a special dance and New Central students and staff, including Halton District School Board Superintendent, Stuart Miller, made presentations to share information about the HIV AIDS pandemic in Africa and to raise awareness for this important cause.

A good friend of mine, Roy Tjoa, is about to embark on what promises to be an amazing journey and he wants to share it with everyone. As a child did you ever dream of being in the Olympics? Yes? Well, so has Roy, only he's now 40 years old, and he wants to represent the Canadian boxing team in the 2012 Olympic Games! Thing is, he's never boxed before, but he's dedicating everything to getting there. He will be blogging about it every step of the way. In an effort to show how serious he is, and to overcome his fear of failure and embarrassment, he is going to tackle many other life dreams, the first of which will be doing a stand-up comedy routine on Amateur Night at YukYuk's downtown Toronto on October 19th. You can view Roy's blog at www.rtsharethedream.blogspot.com and follow along while he checks off his "bucket list".
